Three Cases Result In $ 10.6 Million Dollars...........

Dilbeck v. Evenflo and General Motors - A two year old child sustained brain injury when her head struck the interior of the car in a very low-impact collision. Neither her child seat, nor the vehicle owner's manual, had any warnings against placing the child restraint seat in the front passenger position of her parent's automobile. This seating position would not restrain a child safety seat because it was equipped with a type of lap/shoulder belt ( ELR ) that would only provide restraint in a sudden emergency. The case was settled with both defendants for a confidential amount.

Hannon v. Basic Comfort, Inc. - Twins were both ejected from their child safety seats when the van their mother was driving was struck head-on by another vehicle. Both children suffered head trauma resulting in permanent injuries and extensive medical treatment. A cushioned "insert" sold by the defendant had been placed in each of the children's child seats in order to provide more comfort and stability for the infants. Tragically, the "insert" had the effect of causing the harness straps of the child seats to be moved out of their normal position over the children's shoulders. At impact, the harness straps slid down each child's arms leaving them unrestrained and as a result they were ejected from their seats. This case settled at a mediation for a confidential sum.

Hillock v. Century/Graco - In this case an infant girl was riding in the center rear position of her parents Chevy Blazer. She was seated in a two-piece child restraint seat manufactured by the defendants. When the Blazer was struck on the side by another car, it left the roadway and rolled over twice. During the collision, the carrier portion of the child safety seat seperated from its base and both the child and the carrier were thrown from the vehicle. The infant sustained catastrophic brain damage and requires a lifetime of medical care. The case was concluded just prior to trial for a confidential amount.
